Religious Education

At St Gerard’s Catholic Parish Primary School we believe that the Catholic faith and its traditions are central to the purpose of our school and is an essential part of the formation of the whole person. We seek to provide an environment where students feel welcome, known and safe. Religious Education permeates all facets of school life, connecting the ordinary to the spiritual by teaching our students to interpret our world within the context of the Gospel values. We acknowledge and celebrate the Spirit at work, inviting relationship with God and a Christ-like stance towards others.

Shared Belief:

At St Gerard’s we believe this is experienced personally and communally through:

  • an appreciation and deep understanding of the richness of the Catholic Tradition
  • religious self-understanding and spiritual awareness
  • openness to religious questions and to a religious interpretation of the world
  • discernment and participation informed by the Catholic Tradition.

St Gerard’s Religious Education program incorporates Religious Education Curriculum Framework, Archdiocese Melbourne which sits within the context of the Education Framework for the Archdiocese of Melbourne, Horizons of Hope.

St Gerard’s staff endeavour to use The Religious Education Curriculum Framework to enrich the content of the capabilities of the Victorian Curriculum with a Catholic perspective.

The program builds on the experiences of each child and is taught through a contemporary curriculum, which is planned within the Inquiry Unit and relevant to the St Gerard’s School Community. It aims to help children grow in their relationship with God and supports the family as the primary educators in faith.
