The purpose of our School Camp is to allow the children to make and develop friendships, improve their leadership qualities, as well as having fun and adventure. School Camp is a great opportunity for our students to develop independence, cooperation and leadership skills, whilst having an amazing time completing activities that are challenging and exciting.
St. Gerard’s school camp is compulsory for all Year 5 and 6 students and provides an opportunity for the students to sample a little time away from home as well as preparing them for secondary school camp experiences.
Our Camp will address the following Victorian Curriculum areas in Levels 5 and 6:
Health and Physical Education
Personal, Social and Community Health
Investigate community resources and strategies to seek help about health, safety and wellbeing
Plan and practise strategies to promote health, safety and wellbeing
Contributing to healthy and active communities
Explore how participation in outdoor activities supports personal and community health and wellbeing and creates connections to the natural and built environment
Communicating and interacting for health and wellbeing
Practise skills to establish and manage relationships
Examine the influence of emotional responses on behaviour, relationships and health and wellbeing
Movement and Physical Activity
Practise specialised movement skills and apply them in different movement situations in indoor, outdoor and aquatic settings

Participate positively in groups and teams by encouraging others and negotiating roles and responsibilities
Apply critical and creative thinking processes in order to generate and assess solutions to movement challenges
Capabilities – Personal and Social Capability
Development of Resilience
Describe what it means to be confident, adaptable and persistent and why these attributes are important in dealing with new or challenging situations
Identify the skills for working independently and describe their performance when undertaking independent tasks

Identify the characteristics of an effective team and develop descriptions for particular roles including leadership, and describe both their own and their team’s performance when undertaking various roles

In 2024 our Year 5 and 6 students will be going to CYC Adanac, Yarra Junction.
